A historical guide to the most colorful places on earth
I was tasked with designing a guidebook on any topic of my choosing. So I created the covers, spreads, and content around the most colorful places on Earth.
design choices

Feel
I wanted the book to feel inspiring, informational, calming, and beautiful.
Color Pallet
All of the colors I used were selected from photos of the colorful places featured in the book.
Personal Connection
I've always had a deep appreciation for color and throughout this project, I loved the process of researching all the places in the world that proudly embrace their colors.

Design choices
Each page has a color coded title bar that shows the name of the colorful place, and what country that place is from.
In the bottom right corner of the spreads, I also added a page number contained in a clean white rectangle, similar to the one I used to ground my name on the front cover.

To highlight the intricate details in the photos, I outlined them with the pen tool in illustrator. I then removed the sky to make sure that the main focal point in the photos was what I wanted it to be.
This design choice also made the pages more dynamic and kaleidoscope-like after I reflected them across the spread.

book content
Along with designing the full guidebook, I was also able to create the content. For all 20 places, I found interesting facts and a general history about how the place became so colorful.
At the beginning of the book, I added an index for easy navigation. The pin icons are color coded to match the title bars designated to each place. Then towards the end of the book, I created a world map with the same location pins showing readers exactly where in the world their favorite place is.

result
The final guidebook was informational, calming, and I for one definitely found myself inspired by it!
What colorful place would you travel to if you could?
